ALIAS
December 27th, 2006 by charlottedianco
No, this is not about Jennifer Garner’s hit TV series ALIAS- although I admit, I envy her character’s ability (as Sidney Bristow) to be a lot of things. One minute she’s that black-haired woman in jeans, the next minute she’s wearing leather pants and boots, with flaming red hair. One episode she plays a whore with green hair, the next time she’s a thief in an all-black outfit- and all because of her job as an agent. How cool.
Anyway, last month, I received a call from a mentor. An everyday column was offered to me, however there was a catch. It was a tabloid with a lot of girls/starlets wearing almost nothing (like Rose in Titanic- "Jack I want you to paint me wearing this- wearing only this"). Geez- it had me thinking for about two days. What shall I do? Having a daily entertainment column is in a way- challenging. Plus- it is widely read by the masses. But I was afraid of my editor’s reaction if she learns about the tabloid thing because the content is totally extreme, hahaha! She might send me to a Holy Retreat if she finds out.
After 2 nights of tossing and turning, I came up with a way to solve the problem.
In the tradition of Alias and Charlie’s Angels, I submitted a pen name for the column. It may not be the world’s most original solution- but at least I am now enjoying two personas.

The Box
December 19th, 2006 by charlottedianco
I rarely go to the office. I write most of my stuff at home. Yesterday, I decided to go to the office. One of the staff immediately informed me excitedly that a box of brownies was delivered for me. I was puzzled. Who would send a box of brownies for me in the office? When the box finally was handed to me, I was surprised to see where it came from.
It was from Christian Bautista.
Wow. Christian Bautista sent a box of brownies. I had to read the small card several times just to make sure I read the name right. Not that I am star struck or anything- but it is not everyday that one would receive something from a big star like him (Asia’s Pop Idol at that).
Actually, I was really feeling down yesterday. But when I received that box, it made me smile. I felt better. In the midst of seemingly endless chaos enough to drive a person mad, that red box made a big difference. It was an affirmation that no matter how bad things can be, there will always be good things along the way.
When I got home, I immediately shared that box to my family.
And by the way, it was a box of mini fruit cake and not brownies.
